For many Myanmar refugees in Mae Sot, Thailand, Christmas was extra bright this year. Seeking refuge from over 75 years of armed conflicts, many of these refugees, predominantly from the Kayin (Karen) community, live without electricity in small shelters.
To bring light and hope, the Karen Anglican Ministry at the Border (KAMB) distributed solar lights during a Christmas event. Faces lit up with joy as families received the lights, a simple yet life-changing gift.
Beyond this, KAMB continues to provide support, education, and healthcare to displaced communities through the setting up of schools, boarding houses, and water systems.
On the Myanmar side of the border, volunteers delivered My Light to:
- Htee Ka Haw area: Three villages of mostly farmers without electricity. Students were thrilled to receive lights, enabling them to study at night.
- Pue Lue Plaw area: Eight conflict-affected villages with limited resources, heavily reliant on support from relatives and friends in Thailand.
