Mongolia is a country rich in history and natural beauty, yet many of its people face significant challenges. In rural areas where families live in traditional gers (dwellings), access to reliable lighting is crucial. Even in the cities like Ulaanbaatar, frequent power outages leave communities in darkness. Mongolia’s electricity supply is significantly dependent on its neighboring countries. Due to limitations, rural areas, particularly among nomadic herders, often go without power.
In addition to these energy challenges, other issues such as poverty, unemployment, and unequal access to education leave many Mongolians—especially young and middle-aged individuals—feeling hopeless about their future. For those living in darkness due to power cuts, solar lights provide immediate and essential relief. One herdsman shared how receiving a solar light transformed his family’s home, allowing them to move around safely at night and offering a sense of security.
