Mindanao's primary source of electricity is hydropower. In 2024, the region faced significant challenges due to an extended dry season and a rising demand for electricity. These issues have resulted in power supply disruptions across several areas.
Another contributing factor is the failure of some electric cooperatives to follow nomination, dispatch, and curtailment protocols. As a result, many communities have limited or no access to electricity.
