Located along the Thailand-Myanmar border, Mae Sot is home to Myanmar refugees, mainly the Kayin (formerly known as Karen) people, who are seeking refuge from over 75 years of armed conflicts.

Three Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps in Kayin State, Myanmar, housing approximately 10,000 people, lack electricity and telecommunication services. Located in forested and hilly areas, these camps serve as shelters from bombings, limiting agricultural activities and livelihood to animal farming, fishing, and weaving.
Areas across from Mae Sot are experiencing more electricity shortages due to ongoing conflicts.
Three refugee camps— Maela, Maerama Luang, and Maela Oon - house about 14,000 families with 60,000 refugees. Some refugees in Maela camp go without electricity as they can’t afford it, and those in Maela Oon camp and Maerama Luang camp live in remote jungle areas 5 hours from Mae Sot.
These solar lights will serve as a lifeline to residents, lighting up their homes at night and enabling children to read and study.

The Karen Anglican Ministry at the Border (KAMB) consists of 28 churches. They provide support, education, and healthcare to displaced communities.
The Karen Anglican Ministry at the Border (KAMB) consists of 28 churches. They provide support, education, and healthcare to displaced communities.
To combat inadequate resources and support, KAMB has set up nursery schools, primary schools, and boarding houses to ensure access to education and safety for children. They also set up water systems for some of the villages that lack basic necessities such as electricity.
